Chilli and Spice and All Things Nice!

We fancied a bit of Spice this Christmas and so for our recent festive themed supperclub we turned to Thomasina Miers’ ‘Chilli Notes’ – a lovely homage to everyone’s favourite capsicum. Using this book as our guide for a menu, we cooked up treats that showcased not just chilli heat but the fruity aromatics too.

Mexican Fiesta at the Manor

The past weekend saw the return of Mexican flavours at the Manor – it may have been chilly outside, but we brought some much needed warmth, spice and sunshine! We didn’t quite get through a hundred limes, maybe around fifteen, but we did use thirty six eggs, thirty eight passionfruits and made over fifty tortillas! Hard work, but worth it! As soon as we held our last Mexican event in 2012, we were keen to make a return. This time we used Thomasina Miers’ second Mexican book, Wahaca – Mexican Food at Home, another book that has been a favourite of ours in 2012, which we both cook from regularly as unfortunately there are no Wahaca restaurants north of the M25 – Boo! Fresh, punchy flavours were the order of the day and our lively guests, some returning diners, some new to supperclubs as a whole, seemed to love them too!

January Menu, Wahaca – Mexican Food at Home

Yes, we’re all stuffed from the copious amounts of food and booze of December but what better way to welcome January 2013 at the Manor but with more food and drink!

We’re bringing tastes and flavours from sunnier climes next month, using Thomasina Miers’ second Mexican cookbook, Wahaca – Mexican food at home.

Dan and I have scoured the recipes and have created a menu which will get our guests’ tastebuds tingling! I can feel the spice already!

Enjoy!

A hundred limes – Dinner at the Manor goes a bit Mexican

A hundred limes, forty eggs, a small forest of coriander and a little bit of spice were some of the key ingredients for our most recent supperclub – inspired by Thomasina Miers’ ‘Mexican Food Made Simple.’ To brighten up a cold January weekend, we brought the exotic colours and flavours of Wahaca into the Manor and our guests positive response to this was wonderful!

Dinner at the Manor Canapes

Susie and I have been planning this event for some months now, as Miers’ book was our favourite of 2011. Continue reading

Mexican food made… for Dinner at the Manor!

My dining adventures continue. You can rely on the Christmas period to bring lots of greedy opportunities into life and I’m never one to turn one down! This weekend saw me within a one mile radius of Thomasina Miers’ chain Wahaca, and seeing as they have foolishly failed to bring this Mexican eatery to the North, tsk, I had to grace them with my presence and fill myself with their nosh. Plus we’re featuring Thomasina’s Mexican Food Made Simple at our January supperclub so I thought I’d go and get some presentation tips. Continue reading
